As I was driving to my weekly session of badminton with Subang Jaya Badminton Club on Sunday evening (13 November 2011), I was caught in furious cross wind, pouring rain and blocked roads. There was a moment I feel like a storm chaser, action packed! This super freak hailstorm was nothing I have seen before in all my years of staying in Subang Jaya or perhaps in Malaysia. As a result, most of the club members were late for the badminton session at USJ23 Badminton Centre. Thank god badminton is an indoor sport and not influence by the weather!
Main roads were blocked by fallen tree trunks and I had to detour into some USJ neighborhood to avoid the jam. But no luck, the neighborhood was also attacked by the storm fury and I still found myself trying to avoid all the fallen tree trunks in the smaller housing roads. I saw many car owners having very unfortunate faith because their cars are smashed under the fallen trees and filled with rain water, what a bummer!
Another very unlucky resident had 2 trees landed on his house in USJ9. On my way back from badminton session, I saw firemen were rushing to different parts of USJ, trying to cut the trees apart in order to clear the roads in heavy rain. Thanks to these firemen and our city council Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya, our roads were cleaned up in record time, the Malaysian efficiency at work!
You must be asking why is this published in my local badminton club website? Since I do not own a personal blog, I have requested the Subang Jaya Badminton Club webmaster to kindly publish this article. They have agreed to it because the club is a local sport club, reporting a local event is beneficial to the local community. So feel free to share this article on your own blogs or pages.
Ok, back to the story, Empire Subang Jaya, the local shopping mall (where we usually go hang out after badminton session) was ripped through by a devastating explosion in the early hours of Wednesday. Fire fighter’s white board on the scene stated that they reached the scene at 3:50 a.m.
The strong explosion resulted in 4 injuries including 2 civilians and 2 Nepalist security guards. The windows were shattered up till the third floor of the complex and even the cars parked in front of Starbucks cannot escape this unfortunate faith.
While the explosion investigators are going into the scene to determine the cause of the explosion, all residence were evacuated from the building for safety reasons. Many said the cause was gas leak, but those are all speculations at best. Even the investigators are unsure at this moment (see the picture below of a white board statement written by the fire fighting team captain).
I guess Empire will be closed for quite some time before it is reopened. But it is fortunate that the event took place during midnight when there are very few people around that area.

We went on an away game at Kuala Lumpur on 13th August 2011. We managed to fight off fierce competition from the UTAR team. UTAR team is extremely good sport and our members definitely enjoyed themselves.
We are most grateful to our host, the UTAR team for making all the arrangement in order to make this friendly match possible.
Last but not least, our host brought us to some fabulous lunch and we cleared out that restaurant…therefore we are looking forward to our next visit.
